Strange vertial-alignment display of text

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.1

Steps to reproduce the problem:

What is the expected behavior?
Both xxx are displayed on one vertical line

What went wrong?
Chromium displays the second xxx in the span some pixels moved down.

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 68.0.3440.84 (Offizieller Build) (32-Bit)  Channel: n/a
OS Version: 10.0

Since the test html doesn't specify the font, the result depends on the default font in Chrome.
The bug is observed with Times New Roman, Arial, Courier New, Georgia, Lucida Console.
The bug is not observed with Tahoma, Segoe UI, Segoe WP, Verdana.

Bisected to 055db165e126fb377b7483758616212911e992da

Landed in 48.0.2536.0
Also observed in Canary.

Able to reproduce the issue on reported chrome version 68.0.3440.84 also on latest chrome 70.0.3515.0 using Ubuntu 17.10 and Windows 10.  

Note: Issue not seen on Mac 10.13.5

Same behavior is seen on M60(60.0.3112.113) hence considering it as non-regression and marking it as Untriaged.
