Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/67.0.3396.99 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Not Applicable 2. 3. What is the expected behavior? Used to scroll vertically with touchpad. What went wrong? Unsure at what point it broke. I've tried ALL procedures found in help forums. I've also installed Canary and scrolling is broken as well. Touchpad scrolling works in Opera, Firefox and a multitude of other browsers. Did this work before? Yes Unsure, but problem has persisted for several months Chrome version: 67.0.3396.99 Channel: n/a OS Version: 10.0 Flash Version: I have disabled and then uninstalled all extensions. I've uninstalled/reinstalled chrome. I've reset settings, cleared cache and checked for malware. I've checked and rechecked mouse and touchpad settings. Currently not using a mouse. Arrow keys can scroll as usual and scroll bar is not locked. I can click and drag scroll bar.

Unable to reproduce the issue on chrome reported version# 67.0.3396.99 using Windows-10 surface pro with steps mentioned below: 1) Launched chrome reported version and navigated to chrome://flags 2) Scrolled the page vertically with touch-pad, able to scroll the page without any issues. Observations: Also tested the issue on HP ELITE BOOK by navigating to Wikipedia page, able to scroll the page without any issues. @Reporter: Please find the attached screencast for your reference and provide your feedback on it. Could you please try to test this issue on latest chrome stable# 68.0.3440.84 and let us know if the issue still persists. You can download latest chrome stable from URL: https://www.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel. Note: Tentatively adding Blink>Scroll component to it. Thanks!

gleis_berry@ thanks for reporting the bug, but we need more details to be able to reproduce the bug: -Do you have an example URL? -Does scrolling stops working after a while? or does it not work from the beginning? what device are you using? How often does it happen? - If you wait for a few seconds and/or use scrollbar to scroll, can you resume scrolling by touchpad? - Please check to see if disabling "smooth scrolling" from chrome://flags resolves the issue or not? ccing chaopeng@ since the issue might be related to high precision touchpad?

Had a chat with chaopeng@, letting us know the laptop model helps, also please try chrome 68, since a few issues has been fixed in 68.

Thank you for your very quick response. I really appreciate it.
So here's what I can tell you:
Q-Do you have an example URL?
A-N/A
Q-Does scrolling stop working after a while?
A-NO. Scroll has always worked untill now.
Q-or does it not work from the beginning?
A-I've used the same version od Chrome for a long time and scroll has always worked until now.
Scroll works on all apps and explorer windows as well as a dozen or more, other, browsers.
Q-what device are you using?
A-Windows 10 Home/Laptop
ASUSTek/Model:G752VL
Processor:Intel Core i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60Hz 2.59 ghZ
Installed memory: 12 GB
System type:64-bit OS, x64 based processor
Pen and Touch:NONE
NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 965M
Q-How often does it happen?
A-ALWAYS
Q-If you wait for a few seconds and/or use scrollbar to scroll, can you resume scrolling by touchpad?
A-NO, I can't. However, arrow keys and click and drag on the scrollbar still works.
Q-Please check to see if disabling "smooth scrolling" from chrome://flags resolves the issue or not?
A-IT DOES NOT.
P.S.
I forgot to mention earlier that in an attempt to troubleshoot, I installed latest version of Canary. Scroll does not work in Canary either!
So, my new version of Chrome is now V.68.0.3440.106 (Official Build) (64-bit). And my version of Canary is V.70.0.3517.0 (Official Build) canary (64-bit)
Thanks,
Will G.

I should also mention that I have 'Portable Apps - Platform 15.0.2 (May 17, 2018)' installed and it contains portable versions of Chrome. Scroll not working in portable either! This just makes NO sense to me.

Thanks for your prompt response on the issue. I cannot locally reproduce the issue. Please capture a trace using the instructions here: https://www.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/submitting-a-performance-bug and from "edit categories" either select all on the left side, or please make sure that input, browser,cc,and blink categories are selected. This helps us to narrow down the issue.

Hi gleis_berry, Could you please check if this device is using "Windows Precision Touchpad", please check "Win - Settings > Devices > Mouse & Touchpad" see if it shows "Your PC has a precision touchpad"? I recently saw a post on reddit has similar issue on Acer laptop. https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome/comments/95iarn/touchpad_mouse_problems_lag_randomly_stopping_on/e3vip9z/ He said he got fixed by reset touchpad settings. Update device driver may help Also please provide the details Windows version (current stable is 1709).

P.S. I don't have 'PrecisionTouchpad', but I am using ASUS software, ASUS Smart Gesture app.
,
Aug 10
If you don't use PrecisionTouchpad driver. I don't think we have do anything for it. You may also need to contact ASUS for help. Please check if you have any special setup in ASUS Smart Gesture app. Since Opera is using almost same code with Chrome.

As per comment# 2, issue is unable to reproduce from TE end and as per comment# 13 & 14 removes Needs-Bisect label to it. Note: Feel free to add Needs-Bisect back if needed. Thanks!

Hello again.. So i've been continuing to find a solution, to find out what I did to break Chrome, but with no luck at all. As per your latest reply.. I truly don't intend to be insulting or argumentative. Perhaps you are right. I just don't know. I'm not an expert by any means, but contacting ASUS doesn't feel right to me. To my mind, This is clearly a Chrome issue when scrolling works, as usual, everywhere on my computer, except in two apps. Both being Chromium products. Doesn't that make better sense? And I have no idea why you would mention Opera unless you were curious as to why I started replying using that browser. It's because clicking and dragging the scroll bar has long been a real pain. I find it very unfortunate, but I had to uninstall both Chrome and Canary for a final time. And can you tell me, please, what 'Needs-Bisect' means or what is it that I may need it back? Is it part of <chrome://flags>? TY for your help. Will

Hi gleis_berry@ - thanks for your patience on this bug. I believe chaopeng@ mentioned Opera because it uses the same engine as Chrome "under-the-hood" so it's unusual for Opera to work but not Chrome. Unfortunately, without being able to reproduce the issue on our end we can't do much. Our best bet is if we can get a performance trace. I noticed in #11 you've tried but it didn't work - was that in Stable? Could you try again in beta, dev or canary channels? Also, try to keep the trace to ~10 seconds or less (just one or two unsuccessful scrolls would be enough). A trace would help us narrow down where the issue might be occurring so without that it'll be difficult to make progress. Thanks.
