Issue descriptionFiling this issue from buganizer - b/112030102 - Account you registered the device with: sebbes@google.com - Build Number: PD1A.180719.005 - Serial Number: 872Y00ESY DESCRIPTION Got a new device, Restored my data from the cloud Opened ChromeBeta (my usual browser) Got signed-in with the same account OBSERVED Get only a new tab. Articles for you are personalized. New Tab Top websites are not mine. (never been to "l'équipe.fr <http://xn--quipe-9ra.fr>") Going in Recent Tabs or History I can't find any way to restore my tabs I had. EXPECTED New Tab Top websites and open tabs should be the same I had on my device from which I restored a backup from.

@bauerb - do you know any history about the backup/restore decisions we made with regards to settings/tabs? I assume we relied heavily on the existing sync architecture and didn't want to have two parallel systems. From a sync angle, I wonder if on a fresh install/fresh sign in, could we offer to restore all tabs from another device of a similar form factor (whether that be phone -> phone, desktop -> desktop). Changing to feature request.

Yeah, we just let Sync take care of restoring anything that is synced. Of course, syncing sessions only means that open tabs from another device show up as a remote session, but I guess we could build on that to open one of those sessions. Sabine, are you the PM for Sync now? |
