Double-clicking on a TIFF file opens the Photos app which hangs |
||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: 69.0.3497.14 (Official Build) dev (64-bit) OS: Chrome What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Download a random TIFF file (2) Double-click it in Files.app What is the expected result? The image should be displayed, or Chrome OS should state that it can't display the image. What happens instead? The Google Photos app is launched but only shows a black screen and a spinner that spins forever. I can't seem to find a way to dis-associate the Photos app with TIFF files.

I am unable to repro on 69.0.3497.21 (official, dev). I downloaded a random TIFF file and when I double clicked it, I'm asked to select an app to open the file. Same result if I insert a USB stick with TIFF files. Have you used the Google Photos app before? Maybe there's an association from on old version. What Google Photos app are you talking about? The one I click on from the launcher just opens photos.google.com in a tab.

I managed to reproduce in my dev build M-70. I've installed Google Photos from Play Store and it become the default app for .tiff files. Apparently Google Photos doesn't support tiff, because it did display screenshots from my Downloads folder. I have searched and installed another tiff viewer image on Play Store and it visualized the image without issues. fukino@ I'm not sure if this is an issue on Files side or in Arc++ or Photos side. Any ideas? tnagel@ If you can install other tiff viewers to avoid this problem then you should be able to switch from Photos as default app.

It might be a Google Photos app's problem. I experienced a similar issue on Android phone. I downloaded a tiff file, and select OPEN. Photos app started up and hung.

Adding shussain@ who's been working with the Photos team - Can you check if this is a known issue with Google Photos app?

Actually, I think this is a known issue from looking at buganizer - b/69729557. Do we know why Google Photos is showing up as an available app for TIFF files? |
