Omnibox suggestions shouldn't keep track of error pages and should have a way to delete entries

Project Member Reported by primiano@chromium.org, Jul 30

Issue description

I once typo-ed while trying to go to my inbox, going instead to inbo/, which is an error page.
From that moment, now every time I have to go to inbox I have to remember to type "inbox". Anything shorter will instead go to inbo/. See report from chrome://omnibox below.

IMHO there are two problems here:
1) The omnibox shouldn't keep track of error pages as valid suggestions results, even if they are in the history
2) There should be a way to permanently delete a suggestion result (right click? delete button? something along these lines).

Chrome on Mac, 68.0.3440.75 (Official Build)

Here's my guess.

We fixed in bug 799546 , which landed in M-66. If the "I once typo-ed" it happened in M-66 or later, we have a real bug. If it happened before that, then this bad navigation is simply grandfathered in. :-(

You can delete an omnibox suggestion by using the magic keyboard shortcut. See https://www.cnet.com/how-to/delete-annoying-url-predictions-from-chromes-omnibox/
Or you can go into your history and search your history and delete it from there also. Having a better UI for omnibox suggestion deletion is bug 1205.

Please let me know your best estimate of when you typo-ed the URL first. If it's in M-66 or later, then I might need more information. If not, then it's safe to assume it's the earlier bug and to delete the suggestion / history entry and move on.

i honestly can't remember. Is there a way to reliably figure that out?

Yes, there is. Or there was...

With the "History" file in your profile, I'd be able to check when all the visits to that URL were, including the first one. However, since you deleted the URL from your history already, that's no longer possible.

I'm closing this bug as presumptively resolved, assuming that the inbo/ interaction happened before M-66. If you see this again, let us know.
