Chrome crashes in CrOS VMs when DCHECKs are enabled due to drm/ash check

Project Member Reported by bpastene@chromium.org, Jul 26

Issue description

We try to enable DCHECKs on all of chromium's release CQ bots to provide better test coverage. Currently, the simplechrome amd64-generic bot is the only one of these without DCHECKs enabled. I tried enabling them, and the sanity test is the only test that doesn't like it:
https://ci.chromium.org/p/chromium/builders/luci.chromium.try/chromeos-amd64-generic-rel/53776

Looks like the browser crashes. The chrome logs on the VM complain about:
[FATAL:drm_device_connector.cc(47)] Check failed: (ws_runner_ && !features::IsAshInBrowserProcess()) || (!ws_runner_ && features::IsAshInBrowserProcess()).

The DCHECK in question:
https://codesearch.chromium.org/chromium/src/ui/ozone/platform/drm/host/drm_device_connector.cc?rcl=1ee424a29fc9a44002443eabad70bb19cf35a69f&l=46

I doubt that's WAI. Any idea what's wrong?
