After cancelling "tab to search" (keyword search) mode, the text is sometimes truncated |
|||||||||
Issue description
Steps to reproduce:
1. Type 'goog'. Observe that "Press tab to search Google" appears in the omnibox text field.
2. Press the tab key. Keyword search mode is entered with an animation.
3. Press shift-tab. Keyword search mode is exited with an animation.
Expected result:
The full text of the suggestion appears again ("google.com - Google").
Actual result:
*Sometimes* the text of the suggestion is elided with an ellipsis (...), as if there wasn't enough room to display it, even though there's plenty of room.
Note that this is clearly related to the animation which shrinks and then unshrinks the available space for the text. If we get rid of this animation or change it (see issue 846422), this issue may be resolved.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Type the name of a "tab to search" search provider and press "tab"
What is the expected result?
A simple animation shows that the omnibox is now in "tab to search" mode.
What happens instead?
The words "<Type search term>" fly across the whole omnibox, right to left. Subjectively, I think the following things don't look great and could look better:
- There's probably more movement than is necessary.
- The ">" arrow moves opposite of the direction that it's facing.
- The text gets truncated with an ellipsis and the favicon gets cropped.

Yes, most of this report is a duplicate of issue 846422. But the truncation that happens when you exit keyword mode is a bug that we should separately address.
