Tap to Search has two ways that it can be triggered -- either with Long-press, or with Tap. Long-press activation is disabled on Android O and later due to Smart Text Selection, which does similar help for the user. Please check if a tap triggers and let us know if the problem is just for long-press. (Just filed issue 868108 to possibly address possible confusion with Smart Text Selection suppression).

Oh, one other thing: the very bottom of the SCREEN (where it would overlap the Bar) is disabled for Tap, and maybe for Long-press too. You should be able to scroll up content so it's in the middle of the screen and trigger there.

karemanismita@gmail.com, for now you need to use just a single tap gesture in order to trigger Touch to Search (now renamed to be "Tap to Search"). Using the long-press gesture has been reserved for triggering the Smart Text Selection on Android O and later versions. We know this is a point of some confusion, but it's the way we designed the interaction with Smart Text Selection when that feature was launched. I think we need to revisit this decision, as indicated in issue 868108, but until then using Tap is the suggested method of triggering Tap to Search. |
