Chromium Snapshots Page has a very long loading time

Project Member Reported by meh...@chromium.org, Jul 23

Issue description

Not sure if this is the right place to file this report.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Go to https://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/chromium-browser-snapshots/index.html
(2) Click e.g. on the Mac folder

What is the expected result?
The page with the Mac Snapshots should load quickly. Maybe there could be subfolders categorized in years?

What happens instead?
Page loading time is very, very long :(

Thanks for looking into this issue
Mehmet

Summary: Chromium Snapshots Page has a very long loading time (was: Chromium Snapshots Page needs a very long loading time)
Components: -Infra Infra>UI
Labels: Infra-DX
I (a bug triager) have no idea what this is or who owns it. Tentatively triaging to Infra-DX, since it seems Dev UX related.

martiniss@: Since the path is relocated and some fixes where done in issue 871283 , maybe it is also possible to add subfolders (year/month) to the path too?

Thanks :)

I don't think we can add subfolders to it. Things seem to address directly into the bucket by doing urls such as 'gs://chromium-browser-snapshots/Linux_x64/<commpit position>'. Adding a year would break a lot of tools. So we probably can't do that I think.

If that's really needed, we could make a small proxy service which would give you easier ways to look for builds. Although I'm not sure if we want to support something like that.
Thanks for your feedback. Feel free to close this report, if not possible. I saw this for the Firefox Nightly Builds (https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/) and I thought this would be nice for Chromium too :)

Yeah, I don't think we can change the organization in the bucket directly, for the same reason that we couldn't rename the builders.

As martiniss@ says, we could build a browser on top of this, but we're probably not going to any time soon.
