"Your detachable keyboard needs a critical update" keeps appearing

Issue description
UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 10718.58.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/68.0.3440.70 Safari/537.36
Platform: 10718.58.0 (Official Build) beta-channel soraka-unibuild (soraka)
Steps to reproduce the problem:
Using HP Chromebook X2 - unsure of necessary steps to reproduce
What is the expected behavior?
What went wrong?
Continually receiving error message:
"Your detachable keyboard needs a critical update"
" To get the update, restart your Chromebook with the keyboard attached."
The detatchable keyboard stops working periodically and I have to remove the tablet from the keyboard and re-attach.
I continue receiving this message even after shutting down and turning Chromebook back on.
Did this work before? N/A
Chrome version: 68.0.3440.70 Channel: beta
OS Version: 10718.58.0
Flash Version:
Googled the message and found the following that has some explanation but cannot find any more details.
