Autosuggest stops working after typing two characters

Issue description

Chrome Version: 69.0.3493.0
OS: ChromeOS Eve

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Type a word
(2) Press the candidate that matches the word
(3) Type two more characters

What is the expected result?
Candidates continue to show.

What happens instead?
Candidates disappear.
