Eve: Linux app closed after entering dock mode

Please specify Cr-* of the system to which this bug/feature applies (add
the label below).

Steps To Reproduce:
(1) Install crostini.
(2) Observe Terminal icon in app menu.
(3) Install gedit using "sudo apt-get install gedit".
(4) Open gedit
(5) Connect external monitor using HDMI cable.
(6) Close lid to keep device in dock mode.
(7) Observe screen on external monitor.

Expected Result:
-- All windows should be move to external monitor.

Actual Result:
-- Gedit app is closing immediately.

How frequently does this problem reproduce? (Always, sometimes, hard to
reproduce?)

When I open/close lid in this situation Chrome crashes entirely along with closing all my linux apps. I am left with the "chrome didn't shut down correctly, restore your pages?" popup on a blank chrome window.

This also triggers #864274 where linux apps no longer work and a reboot is required. I can still open Termina after closing/opening the lid with an external monitor but attempting to run konsole outputs.

I hope this can get resolved soon. The last update fixed the washed out colors issue and made my external display usable again but this new bug makes it difficult to work with an external display in other ways.

Yes, I think this is a duplicate of 845776.
The description is a bit different. Here the description is that the app crashes when the lid is closed. In 845776 the apps crashed when the lid is reopened.
But it seems to me that they should be in the same bug.
