Tab discarding is much too aggressive |
||||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: 69.0.3473.0 OS: ChromeOS What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Use ChromeOS for a while. What is the expected result? Expect that in general when you switch to a loaded tab, it is still loaded. What happens instead? Frequently switching to a tab it immediately has to reload, suggesting that it has been discarded since last use. This is particularly disruptive for tabs like e.g. Play Music or Slack, where the discard causes them to lose state. It is also particularly noticable when resuming the device after it has been asleep for some time.

I have also noticed that with 69.0.3464.0 (Official Build) dev, discarding is very aggressive. Switching from one tab to another and about 2 seconds later returning to the original causes the original tab to be reloaded. This is very disruptive and in some cases causes state loss, especially if the original tab has not completed loading.

Also the build I listed is on Linux, not ChromeOS.

We were running a very aggressive experiment on purpose in order to get an upper bound for the possible impact. The experiment has been turned down and we're soon rolling out a more "gentle" version. Closing as WontFix. |
