Support forcing tab mirroring over Cast app. |
||||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: 69.0.3472.3 MR version: 6918.621.0.0 OS: Mac What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Go to a youtube.com video. (2) Open the cast dialog and select a device to cast to. (3) Click the Other sources button What is the expected result? A choice to do tab mirroring instead of use the sdk. What happens instead? There is no choice to do tab mirroring. I think the main case for implementing this feature was to have a workaround for sites that don't implement the sdk very well.

Here's a specific current case: 1. Go to https://www.salon.com/2018/06/28/stephen-colbert-bemoans-justice-anthony-kennedys-retirement-we-are-supremely-screwed/ 2. Cast the page. Expected: The tab would be mirrored, or some content would be loaded and played on the receiver. Actual: Receiver loads the default media receiver splash screen. (See screenshot) In these cases, being able to manually select tab mirroring is pretty useful.

David does this depend on the destination? When I attempt to Cast I get "tab" as a valid source. Does that force use of the Cast SDK?

So it looks like tab mirroring is an option in the source menu, but it doesn't force mirroring like expected on sites that support the sdk. The sites still use the SDK they way they would without the option selected.

"Tab" means either Cast app or tab mirroring, in that order of preference. Forcing mirroring over Cast app is no longer supported.

OK, so I updated the title to reflect that this feature isn't supported in the new UI. Do we want to add support for it?

John, is this a feature we'd still want?
