Variable fonts internal delta precision too low in CoreText

Project Member Reported by drott@chromium.org, Jun 27 2018

Issue description

See issue 856023 for details.

When multiple deltas apply to one glyph, the internal computation of accumulating the deltas seems to round to font units before applying them. When this rounding to font units happens for multiple deltas, an error becomes visible that makes the font contours janky or displaces them.

This is fixed in FreeType, see issue 856023, but we still need a CoreText fix.

Tracked in rdar://problem/39919563

Not fixed in Mojave according to Akiem from Underware.

Can I get access to issue 856023?

I am confused because Behdad claims that this is not fixed in FreeType and filed https://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?54371.

I have trouble visualizing the issue. Please attach some images too.
