CSS grid's multi row cell causes single row cell to change height

Reported by heky...@gmail.com, Jun 27 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/67.0.3396.87 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
Codepen link at:

https://codepen.io/Nness/pen/MrYMzQ?editors=1100#

Once there, add more element to <div class="item-side"></div>

You can see the head cell is growing on height.

What is the expected behavior?
Single row cell shouldn't change anything when multi row cell's content change.

What went wrong?
Multi row cell's content change will cause single row cell to change height.

Did this work before? No

Chrome version: 67.0.3396.87 Channel: n/a
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version:

I have created question on stackoverflow, no one able to explain the reason behind.

In my understanding, the cell that across multiple rows, then they shouldn't aware any single row cells, nor it can change single row cells. It can only increase the total height of two rows.

Able to reproduce the issue on reported chrome version stable #67.0.3396.87 and on latest Canary #69.0.3473.0 using Linux Ubuntu 17.10,Windows 10 & Mac 10.13.5.
Same behaviour is seen on M60(60.0.3072.0), hence considering it as non-regression and marking it as Untriaged for further updates from Dev..

Thanks!
