Add the ability to open omnibox results in a new tab or window

Reported by msd...@gmail.com, Jun 23 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/67.0.3396.87 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. type something into the omnibox
2. select & CTRL+click or SHIFT+click one of the results
3. the result opens in the same window

What is the expected behavior?
should open in a new tab (if CTRL+click / CTRL-ENTER) or in a new window (if SHIFT+click / SHIFT+ENTER)

What went wrong?
opens in the same tab/window ignoring pressed CTRL or SHIFT key

Did this work before? No

Chrome version: 67.0.3396.87 Channel: stable
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
Flash Version:

Alt-Enter opens in a new tab.
I guess it's inherited from the ancient times of IE dominance.

Thanks for filing the issue!

Checked the issue on reported chrome version 67.0.3396.87 and on the latest canary 69.0.3472.0 using Windows 10, Mac 10.13.1 and Ubuntu 14.04.

When clicking a link along with Ctrl key opens a new tab, similarly Shift+Click opens a new window. As the similar behaviour is seen from M60(60.0.3112.0) marking it as Untriaged and considering it as Feature request. Hence requesting someone from Dev team to have a look in to this.

Yes, it is more of a feature request than a bug.

The point here is to NOT leave the current tab everytime I need to search for something that suddenly comes to my mind. Besides, it would be consistent with link-clicking behaviour.

Middle-clicking opens a link from the omnibox dropdown in a new tab in the background.
Alt-enter, as mentioned above, opens a link from the omnibox in a new tab in the background.

I agree it would be nice if the omnibox obeyed the same options (option and shift keys) as regular web content.
