Description:
Currently GPO does not have the granularity to allow for an administrator to turn off the default browser prompts from Chrome but to still allow end-users to easily change the default within Chrome and not having to go to the Windows’ method (via Apps & Features). Please see attached file for more details on the desired result.
Use case:
This feature would allow admins to unblock the GPO to make IE or Edge as default and allow users to use Chrome and make it the default browser (more easily directly via the Chrome browser vs Windows’ method via Apps&Features). Admins do not want to possibly confuse some end-users with the Chrome change default browser prompts and unwittingly change their default when they didn’t want to.
This could unlock more adoption of Chrome more easily and prevent admins from setting GPO to allow for IE to be default browser.
Motivation:
To allow more users the choice to make Chrome their default browser.
Existing workarounds:
None - today IT admins can only turn off the ability to make Chrome default within Chrome via policy.
