<type search term> animation for using search engines from omnibox is annoying

Project Member Reported by altimin@chromium.org, Jun 20 2018

Issue description

Chrome Version: 69.0.3451.0
OS: MacOS

I use custom search engines a lot in my workflow (e.g. "cs" for code search) and with Chrome 69 a new animation was added, which I personally find distracting, especially after seeing it 20 times in 5 minutes.

Can you be more specific? I'm not seeing an animation that isn't in 67 (although it says, "Type search *term*"). I have also tried with #upcoming-ui-features and #secondary-ui... enabled.

krb@, this animation came with the switch to MacViews, which was enabled by default in Chrome 69. Mac didn't used to have this animation; if you disable MacViews, it should go away. See bug 116309. It's likely that we're going to WontFix this bug report, as we're trying to converge Windows and Mac behavior, and Windows has had this animation (intentionally) for a long time without many complaints. It's possible though, the animation somehow looks different on Mac.
Summary: <type search term> animation for using search engines from omnibox is annoying (was: <type search item> animation for using search engines from omnibox is annoying)
For the posterity, here's the video with the animation. It would be great to have an option to disable it.

I'll try to find a Windows machine and check this out.
