"Disable developer mode extensions" bubble/popup steals focus

Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/67.0.3396.87 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Load an unpacked extension with developer mode enabled 2. Be typing in the address bar (or input element in the DOM?) when the popup reminding you to disable unused developer mode extensions is displayed. What is the expected behavior? The popup with the developer extensions loaded warning/reminder should appear but not steal focus, text input should continue to be directed to the address bar or wherever else had the focus at the time before the popup appeared. What went wrong? The developer mode extensions popup steals focus away from the previously active element, and if you were in the middle of typing text that text will be aborted midstream and redirected to the "disable extensions" bubble (which is also a minor security ux issue since presumably it would be possible for a user to inadvertently close that bubble via a keystroke they intended to go elsewhere). Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 67.0.3396.87 Channel: stable OS Version: 10.0 Flash Version: Please respect the user and never steal focus!

mqudsi@ Thanks for the issue. Tested this issue on Windows 10 on the reported version 67.0.3396.87 and the latest Canary by following the below steps. 1. Launched Chrome and navigated to chrome://extensions. 2. added a test extension by enabling Developer mode and while typing in the omnibox, cannot see any popup reminding to disable the extension. Attached is the screen cast for reference. Request you to check and confirm if anything is missed from our end in triaging the issue. Also request you to provide a sample extension, where this issue can be reproduced. Thanks..

My reproduction steps do not trigger immediate appearance of the developer extensions popup, they must be timed to coincide with it. You can ask the chromium team how to manually trigger the "disable developer extensions" balloon on a timer or from a separate process to see the mentioned behavior.

As per comment #4 Issue is related to trigger the ""disable developer extensions"" balloon. This issue seems to be out of TE scope. Hence adding TE-NeedsTriageHelp label to this issue requesting Network team to have a look into this it for further triaging. Thanks.! |
