Darren, Could you help to have a look.
I am busy on new material UI.

Sure, I'll take a look.

Comment 4 by shend@chromium.org, Jun 20 2018

Can't reproduce on 69.0.3466.0 Kevin.

I enabled virtual keyboard flag and floating keyboard flag. I switched to tablet mode and logged out, which brought me to the log in page. I tapped on the pwd input box. The keyboard pops up as expected (with a noticeable delay). Works fine with "Add Person" too.

Am I missing anything? Also, how did you repro with floating mode? Did you open the virtual keyboard and switched to floating mode while logged in?

For Link device, only repro in log in page, also not repro in lock screen;
In Duck mode or floating mode, log out then log in, this issue can repro ;

Hmm, it works for me; the virtual keyboard pops up successfully on the log in page (and lock screen). Is it possible for you to attach a video of this bug?

Do you see some white text at the bottom that says "(TEMP) Show webui login; if used file bug"? If you press it, does the virtual keyboard work again?

Unfortunately, I don't think we have a Link test device here. Does this only repro on a Link device? Is it possible to repro this on another device like Kevin/Eve? That would be highly appreciated, thanks!
Click "(TEMP) Show webui login; if used file bug " , virtual keyboard still can not pop up ,

please refers to attached video ;

Not repro on the latest auto-updated version 69.0.3466.0 Kevin.

Thank you very much for the video! Are you in tablet mode or laptop mode? The virtual keyboard is disabled in laptop mode by default. It pops up when you are logged in because the virtual keyboard flag is on. However, when you log out, those flags are no longer active, so it doesn't pop up anymore.

When you are on login screen, you can turn on the virtual keyboard clicking the Accessibility options and enabling the "On-screen keyboard". That should work.
As there is no window overview button (the button looks like "ロ||") on the right bottom of the shelf, it should not be laptop mode.
oops, sorry. It should be in laptop mode.

Ah nice, thanks yhanada-san.

zhangyu@, I believe this is working as intended? If so, I will close this bug.
1.Only have laptop mode for Link device;
2.In previous version, i remember in log in page ,can pop up virtual keyboard for Link device;

So i can not confirm if it is as intended;

Comment 14 by shend@chromium.org, Jun 20 2018

Thanks, do you remember which previous version?

One possibility is that the accessibility keyboard was enabled, so the keyboard will pop up on the login page. This should also work on current version.
Can not remember which version repro, i can try it

and i tried in accessibility keyboard, this issue also repro in current version;

Comment 16 by shend@chromium.org, Jun 20 2018

Interesting...when you enable the accessibility keyboard, do you see a keyboard icon on the bottom right corner? Does the keyboard pop up when you click it?
Keboard icon can display in right down corner, but when i log out , this icon is disappeared;

Hmm, yeah it looks like logging out will also turn off accessibility preferences. I think you have to turn on accessibility keyboard in the login screen. That should definitely show the icon.
yes, in log in page, if i open accessibility keyboard, can pop up keyboard,

then maybe in previous version ,in log in page, showed keyboard is accessibility keyboard,

so do you think if i need to check it again for previous version?
For Kevin device,
1. It was in laptop mode
2. On log in screen.
3. Accessibility keyboard is off.
4. Turned on the "enable-virtual-keyboard" flag

Actual result:
Can pop up keyboard in log in page ;

Thanks, so it seems like we have different behaviour on Link vs Kevin. On the Link device, it looks like enable-virtual-keyboard flag does not work on login page or something...

I'm going to lower the priority because this is not a user-facing feature (users shouldn't be turning on the flag, they should be using the accessibility keyboard if they want to use virtual keyboard in laptop mode).

Comment 22 by shend@chromium.org, Jun 21 2018

Hi zhangyu, I saw your video had two accounts (yours and Shu's). Is Shu the primary account (first account added to device)?

The login screen uses flags from the primary account, so if you enabled virtual keyboard on the secondary account, it will not work on log in screen. However, if you enabled it on the primary account, it will work on the log in screen.

I'll file a separate issue about the login screen flags.

Yes, I am the secondary account;

Comment 25 by shend@chromium.org, Jun 21 2018

Ok cool, that makes sense. So the problem is flags on the login screen. I've filed a separate bug to the login screen team (854880).

Since this is a bug in the login screen and not the keyboard, is it okay to close this bug?
Ok, thanks
