Sides of omnibox are the wrong color

Chrome Version: 69.0.3464.0
OS: ChromeOS Eve

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Enable "upcoming-ui-features"
(2) Go into tablet mode
(3) Type something into the omnibox
(4) Tap somewhere else to unfocus.
(5) Tap in the omnibox again to focus.

What is the expected result?
Omnibox having a consistent white colour.

What happens instead?
Sides of the omnibox are gray.

manukh@, this look like a duplicate of  bug 853370 , which you fixed.  The only nuance I see is that this is a different omnibox interface and there's an "X" at the far right with a gray background.  I imagine your fix for  bug 853370  fixed this too, but I'm calling it out explicitly to bring your attention to it to make sure.

I verified the issue existed in the touchable and touchable refresh layouts prior to the CL, and no longer exists after the CL. 
However, I'm unsure if my validation is valid, as I was unable to reproduce the omnibox with an x in the far right (tried touchable & refresh touchable, with & without the remaining upcoming ui features); I was able to see the X in chrome Stable with touchable layout.
