Enterprise support feature request |

Issue descriptionDescription: GPO to have flag set to enforce once only Use case: Customer wishes to give users control over the browser they set as default with Chrome being the primary choice. They wish to set the primary/default browser as Chrome only in the first instance of the user signing in. Once the user has selected their browser it should remain and not enforced again. They wish for Chrome to be the first suggested choice. Motivation: Workplace user enablement is a key aspect in the modern workplace. Admins feel that given a choice users will ultimately settle on their preferred environment and work will be more productive and efficient as a result. This will decrease the number of support calls to the customers support team and save time and money where is could be otherwise spent. Existing workarounds: We can set the default browser but have no way to set it as a once only instance.

No Chrome OS feature. Either this can be solved via Chrome browser, or only on the OS side.

This sounds like a use case for master_preferences: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/187948?hl=en https://www.chromium.org/administrators/configuring-other-preferences Marking this as WontFix since master_preferences should be able to achieve the goal of setting Chrome as primary browser once but allowing for this to be changed afterwards.

Apparently the way Win10 works we can not use the Master Preference file for this. Additional context from Noriko's thread: The behaviour that customers are asking for is to have IT set the original default for Win10 to be Chrome via the application association file --- but rather than the change only apply to that particular login session, the user change to another browser would be set forever rather than reset to the policy setting at the next login as the help center doc describes the current behaviour of the provided association file. In other words, could we provide an alternative application association file that would provide the desired behaviour described by customers?

I'm not aware of how to set default browser as a recommended policy only. Chrome can't create a GPO flag since this is a not a chrome policy but an OS policy. It is described here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/ie11-deploy-guide/set-the-default-browser-using-group-policy As mentioned there: "If this setting is turned on ... default associations are applied at logon." Each time the user logs on, the defaults are reset.
