Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13_5) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/67.0.3396.87 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: There is a chrome.topSites api for extensions. Like topSites, I would like Chrome add a topApps api for extensions to get user's most used chrome apps like Chrome OS Launcher displaying top apps at the top. Top Apps is useful for newtab extensions to display these on newtab page. What is the expected behavior? What went wrong? No api to get user most used chrome apps. WebStore page: Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 67.0.3396.87 Channel: stable OS Version: OS X 10.13.5 Flash Version:

While I can see the potential use cases here, I'm not sure this is something the team will be able to get to in the near future. Marking as available in case anyone wants to jump on it.

Besides classic Chrome apps, Google and Microsoft are supporting Progressive Web Apps on the Desktop. There will be more and more web apps appeared on the desktop, and people would rather use them as web apps than web pages. Thus, web apps(Chrome apps and PWA apps) are more and more important. On new tab page, TopSites are web pages. TopApps should be also important for many people in the future. For example, Google's show cases Spotify's desktop PWA at 18 I/O and AutoCAD that use WebAssembly bring their native app to web. |
