tab restore as empty page |
|||||
Issue descriptionI don't have 100% repro case. This happened on Chromebook, Chrome on Mac. I am running Beta channel, 67.0.3396.78 Last night, I got a system update for Mac. After it is restarted, Chrome is restored. I tap on one of the open tab (Pez, an internal page). The page shows blank. Task Manager shows an active renderer process. Inspect shows a mostly empty page where there is only one <script> tag inside <body>. Reload recovered the page. The other day it happened to a tab where a Google doc is loaded. Similar symptom.

Adding folks who know a bit more about session restore. Sounds like either the tab isn't loading (as if it's a background tab that hasn't been prioritized), or something happened to the restored state (similar to what happened in issue 816586 , but on a more tab-specific basis). Grace, if you see this again, can you try switching to another tab and back and see if it loads? That would indicate it's closer to the "restore background tab" case.

Re #2, switching tab doesn't trigger reload. I have to manually reload.

FYI, it happened again today on a Google Slides page. Confirm again that switching tab doesn't help. Explicit reload does.

I'm not able to repro, so we'll need to find someone more familiar with this area to help. chrisha@, can you find someone to help look at this with Grace? (Or sky@, but I think he's OOO for a bit.)

Let me know if any info you want me to collect when it happens. The internal Pez site seems easy to repro. Open it in a tab. And switch to your normal work. A day later, restart Chrome, switch tab, you will get an empty tab.

Sorry, was on vacation last 3 weeks. A recent change in session restore has made an existing race much more likely, and has been tickling issues that sound like this. We've seen it occurring with very high likelihood on chrome:// pages, but have been having a much harder time reproing on other pages. This may be related to that issue, being discussed on bug #859193 .

Glad to hear this is being looked into now. FYI, the internal pez page seems easy to repro if you need a repro case.
