Sheets is consuming shift+search+left and shift+search+right |
||||
Issue descriptionThese shortcuts are mapped to HOME and END. They're Search based and hence should act as system shortcuts and should not be hijacked by pages. Lawrence reported: "When I'm editing the text in a cell in Sheets (via double click on cell), these new shortcuts seem to be captured by Sheets rather than the OS and always switch between sheets for me. So when I'm writing/editing with lots of text in a cell, it's hard to move through a line without using the mouse/touchpad."

Does this ever work previously? Do we expect all Search based shortcuts should be handled by system first?

Re#2: Yes, Search based keys should not be hijacked. Look at AcceleratorRouter::ShouldProcessAcceleratorNow(): https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/ash/accelerators/accelerator_router.cc?type=cs&q=AcceleratorRouter::ShouldProcessAcceleratorNow&g=0&l=106

Similar with the issue 834665 (https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=834665&can=2&start=0&num=100&q=owner%3Ame&colspec=ID%20Pri%20M%20Stars%20ReleaseBlock%20Component%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20OS%20Modified&groupby=&sort=&hotlist_id=). search + left is rewritten to home (https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/ui/chromeos/events/event_rewriter_chromeos.cc?q=kNonSearchRemappings&g=0&l=943). As result, shift + search + left will not be handled by system first.

Google Sheets is using search in multiple places: https://support.google.com/docs/answer/181110?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en Assuming we'll need to work with Sheets team on this. Afakhry@ and Andrewxu@ - lets chat before making changes. |
