Unhelpful error messages using Chromebook Recovery Utility on device with too little storage |
||
Issue descriptionChrome Version : 66.0.3359.203 URLs (if applicable) : https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chromebook-recovery-utili/jndclpdbaamdhonoechobihbbiimdgai Other browsers tested: n/a What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Login to a ChromeOS device with little storage space left (<2GB or so) (2) Install and open Chromebook Recovery Utility: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chromebook-recovery-utili/jndclpdbaamdhonoechobihbbiimdgai (3) Insert a USB stick that is large (>8GB should do the trick) (4) Try to image the USB stick; try "EVE " as the Chromebook model. What is the expected result? Since the Chromebook (not the USB stick) has too little space on it to store the recovery image, this will fail, but it should give helpful error messages that clearly indicate why it has failed. What happens instead? Creating the USB stick fails, with an error message about being unable to Unzip the image. This is ambiguous and isn't very helpful as an indicator for why creation failed.
