Browser breaks below image at startup

Reported by stallion...@gmail.com, Jun 8 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/66.0.3359.181 Chrome/66.0.3359.181 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Install Chromium.
2. Open any application with an image in it (Pinta, GIMP, etc.) OR you could leave the desktop clean if there's an image as a background.
3. Now click on Chromium's icon to start the browser.
4. You get this:
https://s20.postimg.cc/ge3f92ikd/chromium-at-startup.png
5. Takes 10 to 20 seconds to go back to the normal Chromium view.

What is the expected behavior?
The browser should display it's whole window with the addon set to manage the new tab OR display a blank tab. It should also NOT break the image below.

What went wrong?
Don't know. After the update this just started happening for no reason. This problem wasn't there in Chromium 65 or lower, so whatever causes it, is in the 66th version.

Did this work before? N/A

Unable to reproduce this issue on 67.0.3396.87 using Ubuntu 17.10. Downloaded Pinta and checked but unable to reproduce this issue.

@REporter: Please upgrade chrome to latest stable M-67 and let us know the behavior. Also could you please let us know if this is specific to Mint? Please attach chrome://gpu details as well. Any further information on reproducing the issue would help in further triaging from TE end.

Thanks!
Ubuntu ain't Mint. It is possible however that the bug is specific to Mint and to Cinnamon in particular, altough I can't be sure of the latter. It's also good you commented on this because I couldn't find my own report in order to update it. :) I wanted to add the problem was somewhat fixed by updating the kernel to version 4.13.0-45. I said "somewhat" because that breaking now doesn't happen so often. Clearly the 66th version doesn't get along with 4.10 kernel and Chromium being run with 4.10 makes the browser very, very sluggish and also causes the breaking image from the screenshot.

As per comment#3 issue is specific to Mint and cinnamon. As TE team do not have this environment adding TE-Hardware-Dependency label. Could someone from dev team please have a look at this issue.

Thanks!
