Need a way to associate .ica file to Citrix receiver

Project Member Reported by pnevin@chromium.org, Jun 7 2018

Issue description

Chrome OS Version: From about m63
Chrome OS Platform: HP 13

Steps To Reproduce:
(1) Go to Citrix portal and click on a link to download Citrix configuration file (.ica file)
(2) File will download and be saved on the Chromebook. It does not associate to the Citrix receiver app.
(3) The user has to manually open the file in the Citrix Receiver app

Expected Result:
Opening a Citrix config file will launch the Citrix Receiver app. This is the behavior on Windows.

Actual Result:

How frequently does this problem reproduce? Always

What is the impact to the user, and is there a workaround? If so, what is
it? Workaround is to manually open the file in the Citrix receiver app.

pnevin@ - This is actually an issue on the Citrix Reciever app side. They need to advertise that they support opening .ica files.

+shussain@ - I think this issue may fall under app compatibility? Do we have guidelines for this?

A solution from Citrix:
https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX136578
Probably, we need a way to define "File Type Associations" so
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/citrix-receiver/haiffjcadagjlijoggckpgfnoeiflnem?hl=en
could always open .ica files by default.

Sorry - CTX136578 is a solution for Windows.

@tharu is the DA for Citrix and can reach out with any requests for them. They may need some information on how to build in a file association (maybe via https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/manifest/data-element).
