Sameer: Do you recall how soon after you unlocked/logged in that you tried to use SmartLock? There is a known issue where Magic Tether and SmartLock try to communicate over BT at the same time, thus hosing the messaging.

Hmm, this feedback report was for "Was able to login to my @google.com account using smart unlock." That symptom can be closed now that we understand that logging-in was enabled on my account.
