Web Speech API lacks privacy documentation |
||
Issue descriptionI couldn't find documentation related to data use and retention for the speech that's uploaded to Google's servers as part of the Web Speech API. https://www.google.com/chrome/privacy/whitepaper.html#speech https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2013/01/Voice-Driven-Web-Apps-Introduction-to-the-Web-Speech-API Glen, Tomas, do you know which policies govern that data? Who would be a good person to look into this?

Thanks for the references, Glen. This is written in the whitepaper: "Using the feature sends an audio recording to Google (audio data is not sent directly to the page itself), along with the domain of the website using the API, your default browser language and the language settings of the website." The whitepaper doesn't mention if that data is stored or used in any other way than as input for speech to text. Could you please provide a specific answer to that?

Per offline conversation with Glen the data isn't logged. Updating the whitepaper: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1EWAPfr9_wz2w3Ke0l0cwaA7CODsEw7PfvKIKvSscQM0/edit#
