I am little confused kraskutti@, Since based on Screenshot you are setting "Chrome Home button" once you set you should see a Home icon on Chrometab strip and clicking on that should take to "Chrome://apps" and that is working as intended.

Oh I'm sorry, this was my fault, I misunderstood the problem.

I believe I previously had a new tab extension (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/replace-new-tab-page/cnkhddihkmmiiclaipbaaelfojkmlkja) that is no longer working as of today.

Apologies, I think it's a problem with the extension, not with Chrome.

I'm not able to reproduce this on 66.0.3359.181 (Mac or Linux), 67.0.3396.62 (Official Build) (64-bit) (cohort: 67_win_62), or Canary (69.0.3445.2 on Mac today).

I don't have 67.0.3396.62 on Mac yet. Can you please try again & attach a screenshot of the "default new tab page"?

This can be marked as resolved. It was an issue with this extension no longer working (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/replace-new-tab-page/cnkhddihkmmiiclaipbaaelfojkmlkja), not with chrome.
