Request for support for XFA-Based PDF files on Chrome OS |
||||||||||||||||||||||
Issue description## Use case ## Customer receives PDF files from a Government office, however files are not regular PDF, they are XFA (A proprietary form from Adobe), when they try to open the PDF file on a Pixelbook on latest Chrome OS version, they get a message advising the following: Please wait... If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document. Customer would like for this type of documents can be opened in the future since they recently move to G Suite and it’s important for them to be able to open this type of documents. Current built in PDF viewer doesn’t support and hence doesn’t open correctly this PDF type. ## Motivation ## Customer is currently analyzing Chrome OS capabilities and prior to moving completely to Chrome OS they need for this type of files to be able to open. Currently Chrome OS cannot open this files with the built in PDF viewer or any other extension available in Chrome Web Store. ## Existing workarounds ## Conversion from PDF XFA to a flat PDF that will not allow to edit the form inside of the file. This will only allow for them to view the document but not edit it.

Hi How can I track the progress of the original ticket if this one is deemed a duplicate? Thanks in advance!

I am looking at removing the view restrictions on the bug that it was marked as a duplicate of, so that you can track that issue. I just need confirm that doing so is acceptable, since I didn't put the restriction in place originally. I will update this bug once that one is public.

Talking with others, we have determined that removing the viewing restriction from the other bug is fine. Just having an issue actually doing it, since we are not able to change the related bit on the bug for some reason. I have a bug out with the bug tracker team to get this resolved. I will update this bug once I have removed the view restriction.

crbug.com/62400 is now public, so you should be able to track that. It is a high-level bug for implementing XFA, so won't have a ton of day to day progress details, but once that bug is fixed XFA should be working. |
