Gmail dot trick is confusing

Issue descriptionI am experiencing a huge security problem with my GmailAccount. On May 16th 2018 , I have recieved an Email from the Brazilian "Uber". charging me R$10,13 for a ride in João Pessoa - PB, Brasil. I have never been there. I checked if the email was meant for me or if it's just another phishing Mail. When I saw it, I could not believe my eyes. The Mail was sent to the Adress "dgdevid@gmail.com" which is NOT MY ADRESS! My Adress is "dg.devid@gmail.com". How is it anyhow possible, that a Sign/DOT in the Adress can be ignored by the distributing-software? This means that this person can recieve my emails and I can recieve his. this is a no-go and I feel threatened by this security risk. How can I know how many Emails haven't reached me but him? Now it all makes sense, when I had people sending me mails and I couldn't get them. Usually a quick look to the spam folder does the deal but it didnt.. Today I got myself a new Windows-Laptop which I tried to connect with my Microsoft account, that goes over the same Adress and I could not connect, although password and Adress were correct. I think this might be connected in any form. However this issue needs to be fixed ASAP. I cannot be the only one experiencing it, since a dot is a very common sign in most of addresses. Thank you for your attention and your potential help. Kind regards, Devid G. UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/66.0.3359.181 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. send a random EMail to the adress "dgdevid@gmail.com" 2. I will recieve it on the account of "dg.devid@gmail.com" 3. I do not have any proven information about how it works the other way around, unfortunately. What is the expected behavior? Fixing the bug ASAP, since it isn't anything that can seriously be happening for Alphabet Inc. in 2018 and donating me a reward for reporting the issue , since my and the other persons data being super insecure. What went wrong? I would like to find out. Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 66.0.3359.181 Channel: n/a OS Version: 10.0 Flash Version: Thank you for your time! best regards, Devid G.

As elawrence mentioned, dgdevid and dg.devid point to the same email address. This is described in the official Gmail help pages: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7436150?hl=en
