Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/66.0.3359.181 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Find an area to input text 2. Type a misspelt word and wait for Chrome to show a red underline 3. Right-click the underlined word What is the expected behavior? As in previous versions, Chrome should open the context menu with the list of suggested spellings. What went wrong? Chrome highlights the word as well as opening the context menu, for no reason at all. Did this work before? Yes 65.0.3325.181 Chrome version: 66.0.3359.181 Channel: stable OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2) Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 29.0 r0 Screenshot: http://prntscr.com/jmm9zs If the context menu is closed, simply pressing an alphanumerical key will delete the word, because it was selected without my decision. This results in slower continuous typing and spell-checking.

Thanks for filing the issue! Able to reproduce the issue on reported chrome version 66.0.3359.181 using Windows 7. Tried checking the issue on version 65.0.3325.181, where it's mentioned working. Yet we were able to see the similar behaviour in both the versions i.e., words are getting highlighted. Attaching the screen cast from 65.0.3325.181 for reference. @Reporter: Could you please let us know if there is an issue (...in 65.0.3325.181-Attached screencast), your Feedback helps us to triage the issue further in a better way.

The last working version may have been earlier than the version I listed. I can't remember exactly which version, all I remember is that I don't remember it selecting the words before a few months ago.

Able to reproduce the issue on reported chrome version 66.0.3359.181 and on latest canary 68.0.3440.7 using Windows 7 and on 69.0.3443.0 using Ubuntu 14.04. Note: Issue is not seen(applicable) on Mac. As the issue is seen from M60(60.0.3112.0) considering it as Non-Regression and marking it as Untriaged. Hence removing Needs-Bisect label. Tentatively adding component "Blink>Editing>Spellcheck", please change if this isn't apt. Thanks!

This is the expected behavior, and AFAIK this behavior is there for at least 5 years. See https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/9274abf012f9fa468a2ea3676ea08a6391312c6b

When clicking on middle of misspelled word, Chrome selects the word and shows suggestions in context menu. However, when clicking at start/end of word, Chrome does not select the word and shows suggestions. It is better to make Chrome to select word when clicking at start/end of word.

See also issue 790828 and http://crrev.com/c/1033430 Also, we may want to select word when clicking/tapping whitespaces between words. See FrameSelection::SelectWordAroundCaret() |
