eve: Clicking on the trackpad is frequently interpreted as a right click

Project Member Reported by sraub@google.com, May 22 2018

Issue description

Chrome Version : 66.0.3359.137
OS Version: 10452.74.0
Brand new Pixelbook.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Clicking on the trackpad.

What is the expected result?
I expect the click to be a treated a left click.

What happens instead of that?
It is treated as a right click.

I believe this happens about 20% of the time. I am not sure what exactly about the way I click makes the trackpad think it's a right click. I would like a click to only ever be a right click if I am holding Alt. This happened with my original Pixel a few years ago and I worked with someone to mostly resolve the issue.

Susannah, are you clicking with the same finger you're using to move the pointer, or e.g. moving with your index finger and clicking with your thumb?

I click with my index finger and have seen unwanted right clicks on eve when the device is on my lap and my shirt brushes the bottom of the touchpad as I'm clicking. I suspect this isn't as straightforward as that, though.

I use my index finger to move the cursor and click with the side of my thumb. It doesn't seem to be as simple as whether my index finger is still on the trackpad or not.

Is there a setting that disables whatever this right click gesture is so that I trigger a right click only when I hold down Alt and click?

Someone on the input team should definitely weigh in since I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I think that the gesture you're triggering to produce these right-clicks is probably two-finger-click. I don't know of any way to disable it. Is there any chance that your index finger is briefly leaving the touchpad just before the click and then touching it again just as your thumb performs the click?

(Someone on the input team should be able to look at the logs in the feedback reports to see what the touchpad saw.)

It's totally possible that's happening, but it's hard to click naturally and think about how I'm clicking at the same time.

I would love to disable that "feature". It's absolutely infuriating to continually have the context menu pop open.
