White "flash" appears after using back button

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_12_6) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/66.0.3359.181 Safari/537.36

Example URL:
reddit.com

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. go to reddit.com
2. click link that goes to dark coloured webpage, e.g. an imgur link.
3. use back button or (on mac) back swipe
4. observe a brief white "flash"

What is the expected behavior?
Returning to the previous page without displaying a white flash first

What went wrong?
An annoying white flash appears on some sites when using the back buttong

Does it occur on multiple sites: N/A

Is it a problem with a plugin? N/A 

Did this work before? Yes 

Does this work in other browsers? N/A

Chrome version: 66.0.3359.181  Channel: stable
OS Version: OS X 10.12.6

Issue 842071 is probably related: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=842071
 
Upon further inspection it seemed to be related to Reddit's new layout design. Apparently only during the transition the problem occurred. The problem seems to be fixed now...
