Text input disappears when clicking/changing focus

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/65.0.3325.181 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
Select some text in any input box and change tabs.

OR

Click on any input box for the first time.

What is the expected behavior?

What went wrong?
Text gone/disappeared.

Did this work before? N/A 

Chrome version: 65.0.3325.181  Channel: stable

Tested the issue using #65.0.3325.181 and #66.0.3359.181 on Linux debian rodete and could not reproduce the issue as per the steps mentioned below.

Steps:
1. Launched Browser
2. Opened few tabs
3. Tried copying text
4. No text disappearing is seen

@Reporter: Could you please update Chrome to latest version #66.0.3359.181 and check if you still face the issue?

Unable to reproduce the issue on ubuntu 17.10 using chrome latest stable #66.0.3359.181 and latest chrome version #69.0.3443.0.

Attached a screen cast for reference.

Following are the steps followed to reproduce the issue.
------------
1. Opened gmail.com.
2. Clicked on the compose box and selected text.
3. Observed that text input did not disappear on clicking or changing focus.

hmm, seems a ibus-related problem. Everything ok when I terminate ibus.
