Audit stuck in "Lighthouse is warming up" on Linux & Mac Systems

Reported by pratik_b...@gridle.io, May 22 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Ubuntu Chromium/66.0.3359.181 Chrome/66.0.3359.181 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open developer tools any website
2. Go to audit tab
3. Click Perform an audit.
3. Select all the audit checkboxes.
4. Click Run audit.
5. The dialog box will stuck and will display a message 'Lighthouse is warming up'.

What is the expected behavior?
Audit should be done.

What went wrong?
Running a Audit report on any website results in the Audit tab being stuck in "Lighthouse is warming up" state. This is reproducible on most Linux Systems and Mac OS as well. It seems to work fine on a windows system though.

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 66.0.3359.181 Channel: stable

pratik_borsadiya@ Thanks for the issue.

Tested this issue on Ubuntu 14.04 and Mac OS 10.13.3 on the reported version 66.0.3359.181 and the latest Canary 68.0.3438.0 and unable to reproduce the issue by following the below steps.

1. Launched Chrome and navigated to https://pratikborsadiya.in/ site.
2. Clicked on Audit tab in Devtools, selected all the checkboxes and performed an audit.
3. Can observe that the audit is completed.
Retried the issue on another web page and no issues are observed.
Attached is the screen cast for reference.

Hi Susan,

According to the report on this GitHub issue(https://github.com/ChromeDevTools/devtools-frontend/issues/76#issuecomment-390787561) the issue is with Chromium v66.x.x not Google Chrome. I am also using Chromium. Most of the users have reported on GitHub that they are having issue on Ubutu 16.04. I request you to test the latest version of Chromium 66.x.x on Ubuntu 16.04.

See if the issue is fixed in the latest development builds:

Able to reproduce this issue on reported version 66.0.3359.181 chromium using Ubuntu 17.10. i.e;Seeing only "Lighthouse is warming up" message on performing audit in Amazon.in page. Issue is not reproducible on Windows and Mac.

NOTE:1. This issue is seen in M65(65.0.3325.181 chromium build)as well.
2. Issue is not seen in equivalent chrome build.

Unable to provide bisect result as seeing below error when installing chromium builds from https://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/chromium-browser-snapshots/index.html?prefix=Linux_x64/

echm@his-pcs-2995230:~/Desktop/chrome-linux$ ./chrome
./chrome: error while loading shared libraries: libgconf-2.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.

Hence marking as Untriaged for further inputs from dev team. Found similar issue on chrome os , issue https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=824999.

Mergedinto: 747349
Status: Duplicate (was: Assigned)
This is the same root cause as 747349. Remote modules are not always built for Chrome OS and Chromium versions.
Mergedinto: -747349 742993
Merging into 742993 instead, which is slightly more specific to an Audits panel solution.
