Thanks for filing the issue !

Unable to reproduce the issue on reported chrome version 66.0.3359.181 using Windows 7 and Windows 10 with the below mentioned steps.
1. Launched chrome and opened few tabs.
2. Searched some random content in one of the tabs.
3. Clicked on another tab.
We were able to switch to the tab clicked with out being the browser getting closed.
Note: tentatively adding component "UI>Browser>TabStrip" please change if this isn't apt.

@Reporter: Could you please let us know if we have missed anything from our end. Please check the same in a new profile with out any apps and extensions and let us know if the issue still exists.

Hi,
I logged out my account off of chrome and the problem still exists, neither
apps or extensions are enabled. I'm guessing it's a malware issue but I
attempted to clean up the computer and no problems were found by Chrome and
my AntiVirus software.

Re-checked the issue on reported chrome version 66.0.3359.181 using Windows 7 and Windows 10 with the exact steps mentioned in comment#2, We are unable to see any crash i.e., browser isn't getting closed while switching tabs.

@Reporter: Could you please provide us the crash ID from Chrome://crashes, by relaunching the chrome when it's closed. Providing the crash ID would help us in triaging it in a better way.

Thanks!

I have enabled Crash reporting ever since I installed Chrome on my Windows
7 and even after I reinstalled it. The problem still happens and no crashes
appear from Chrome://crashes. A new problem has occured and Chrome crashes
randomly even without clicking on any tabs. I have provided screenshots for
further information.

I suspect that Chrome is closing cleanly, i.e. the program thinks you actually want to close it, as opposed to crashing. I don't know why that would happen on selecting a tab. Is there a chance you're double-clicking to select tabs, and happen to click in the region just to the left of the first tab? That would close the current window.

I am definitely sure that I only click once when I choose another tabs and that I never click inbetween the tabs. There are times that it would close when I click on the second tab. A message saying "Chrome didn't shut down correctly" will always show when I relaunch Chrome after it crashes. And I have just noticed that this bug happens when messenger.com is open in another tab (I usually place the tab either on the first or second based on which tab I use the most.) I've tried restarting my laptop and it temporarily fixes the issue until it happens again in any random moment after a few hours.
Components: -UI>Browser>TabStrip Internals>CrashReporting
Hmm. Odd that you'd get "didn't shut down correctly" but no crash report. I'd think those would be in sync.

Changing component in hopes of luring in a crash-knowledgeable person: any explanation for the above described behavior?

As we are unable to reproduce the issue on reported chrome version 66.0.3359.181 using Windows 7 and Windows 10 (...comment#2), and no crashes being reported under chrome://crashes for reporter(...comment#12), hence adding label "TE-NeedsTriageHelp" and requesting some one from "Internals>CrashReporting" team to have a look into this and help in further triaging it.

Thanks!

I installed Mozilla Firefox and discovered that the problem also exists in other browsers. And the problem is exclusive to Facebook messenger. All browsers work fine until I open Facebook messenger on a tab, it even crashes with 1 tab opened.
