"ExtensionSettings' GPO policy for Chrome OS AD integration is not listed.

Project Member Reported by ryutas@chromium.org, May 18 2018

Issue description

ChromeOS version: any
ChromeOS device model: any
Case#: 15740383

Description: ExtensionSettings' GPO policy for Chrome OS AD integration is not listed.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install the GPO template from the web page link below.
https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/7497916 (Integrate Chrome devices with Active Directory)
template:https://storage.googleapis.com/support-kms-prod/DmHUmKgjylWtr1uC0S3bkz8GK2TK2qwoybeq
2, confirm the installed Chrome OS template in Group Policy Management Editor.
3. confirm the configured GPO is working OK (installed App from the Chrome Webstore from the AD to the Chromebook )
3. Search for the ExtensionSettings GPO policy to configure it.
4. “ExtensionSettings” GPO is not listed under Google Chrome OS>Extensions.
(However, there is “ExtensionSettings” exists under Google Chrome>Extensions>)

Current Behavior / Reproduction: “ExtensionSettings(Extension management settings)” GPO is missing under Google Chrome OS>Extensions.

Expected Behavior: “ExtensionSettings” GPO should be in Google Chrome OS>Extensions as Google Chrome>Extensions.

I'm not very familiar with the GPO inner workings. nrpeter@, do you have any insight here?

+ljusten@ who wrote the AD management of ChromeOS policies code

Looking at policy_templates.json I don't see why ExtensionSettings isn't exposed as a ChromeOS policy in the GPO template.

The ExtensionInstallBlacklist policy is visible in the ChromeOS GPO template but not ExtensionSettings. The only difference between these two policies I can see is that ExtensionSettings is type 'dict' while ExtensionInstallBlacklist is type 'list'.

The Help Center article points to an obsolete version. The one from
https://www.chromium.org/administrators/policy-templates
(in the 'Chrome OS' folder) should be used. I verified that ExtensionSettings shows up with the latest templates.

I've spun up b/109642517 to track the Help Center update.

Assigning back to ryutas@ for tracking.
Hello, I downloaded the latest stable ChromeOS ADMX files from the provided link and confirmed ExtensionSettings is still not available to configure (see attached screenshot). I have not tried the Beta or Dev ADMX files, although I can if instructed to.
Chrome ExtensionSettings Missing 6-4-18.PNG

It's called "Extension management settings". The ADMX templates never displays the (internal) policy name (ExtensionSettings), but the caption (Extension management settings). See:
https://www.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3#ExtensionSettings
The caption is displayed right below the policy name there.
Yes I see that now. Thank you
