"Continue where you left off" writes constantly on the hard drive creating performance and life expectation on SSD

Reported by panosla...@gmail.com, May 14 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/66.0.3359.139 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open chrome with several tabs
2. In Windows open "Task Manager" and go to tab "Details", sort by column "I/O write bytes" (add if it doesn't exist)
3. You will see that it keeps increasing very fast. If the "continue where you left off" option it increases very fast. If you go to "Open the New Tab page" it grows slower.

What is the expected behavior?
The pace of 1MB write per second puts a strain on any hard drive

What went wrong?
It kills my SSD

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 66.0.3359.139 Channel: stable
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version:

"I/O write bytes" doesn't necessarily mean the data is flushed to the physical disk.
You need to use low-level monitoring tools to detect that.
wow, great answer! Any recommendations for such a tool?
