Able to reproduce the issue on chrome reported version 66.0.3359.139 and on latest chrome 66.0.3359.170, but the same issue is not seen on latest Beta# 67.0.3396.40 and chrome# 68.0.3430.0 using Ubuntu 14.04, working on Reverse Bisect info and we will update the Bisect information later, hence marking this issue as Untriaged and adding Needs-Bisect label to it. This issue is specific to Linux. Thanks!

Able to reproduce the issue on chrome reported version 66.0.3359.139 and on latest stable 66.0.3359.170, but the same issue is not seen on latest Beta# 67.0.3396.40 and chrome# 68.0.3430.0 using Ubuntu 14.04, hence providing reverse bisect info Reverse Bisect Info: ================ Last Bad build: 66.0.3359.170 First Good build: 67.0.3360.0 Below is the change log from omahaproxy Change Log: https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+log/66.0.3359.0..67.0.3360.0?pretty=fuller&n=10000 Note: Tried doing per-revision bisect for the above range, but got all good builds for above mentioned range, unable to find correct suspect from above change log hence tentatively CC'ing thomasanderson@chromium.org for further inputs on this issue. Thanks!

viswa.karala@ Unfortunately a bisect will do no good here :( The issue will happen if the channel is stable, not if the version is some particular number. +thestig It's this bug again.. the one caused by the presence of a bad $HOME/.local/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop I just checked on my own filesystem and I happen to have this file. Sure enough, there's a line Exec=/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable which should be Exec=/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable %U Absolutely no idea what's adding it. This is on gLinux.

It seems working fine on recently released chrome 67. Now there is no file $HOME/.local/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop
