Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/66.0.3359.139 Safari/537.36 Example URL: Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. open a web page that contains video 2. make sure nothing is on top of video area (including playback controls) What is the expected behavior? What went wrong? The video is rendered more bright than it should be. It goes correct when something is on top of video (devtools overlay, playback controls, HTML elements etc), or when I open start menu or action center, with glitches on blurred background (when it covered the video). Did this work before? N/A Is it a problem with Flash or HTML5? HTML5 Does this work in other browsers? Unable to reproduce the issue on Win-10 using chrome reported version #66.0.3359.139 and latest canary #68.0.3422.0. Attached gpu_details for reference. Following are the steps followed to reproduce the issue. ------------ 1. opened a web page that contains video i.e www.cnn.com 2. Made sure that nothing is on top of video area (including playback controls). 3. Observed that video did not render more bright and it was rendered properly without any issues. dantmnf2@ - Could you please check the issue on latest canary #68.0.3422.0 by creating a new profile without any apps and extensions and please let us know if the issue still persist or not. If possible please provide a sample url to test the issue from TE-end. Thanks...!!

It also happens to clean canary #68.0.3423.0, plus broken text rendering... Samples: https://cirno.xyz/files/ec18bcec-ee9f-4d81-a452-763fe0b71a76/ The HTML files just contain a <video> element that refers to the corresponding mp4 file. On the "gray" sample, the whole video is rendered in pure white. It's hard to explain the "bars" sample... see the video attached.

Able to reproduce this issue on reported version 66.0.3359.139 and on latest chrome 68.0.3425.0 using Windows 10, Ubuntu 14.04 and Mac 10.13.6 But issue is not seen on M60. Hence marking this as Untriaged. Will provide bisect info soon. Thanks!

Please find bellow bisect information. Note: Not reproducible on Mac OS & Ubuntu OS. After running per-revision bisect for two times we ended up getting bad builds. Hence providing manual bisect information from ""omahaproxy.appspot.com"" Bisect Info: ================ Good build: 62.0.3180.0 Bad build: 62.0.3181.0 CHANGELOG URL: https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+log/62.0.3180.0..62.0.3181.0?pretty=fuller&n=10000 Reviewed-on: https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/607154 @dalecurtis: Please confirm the issue and help in re-assigning if it is not related to your change. Can we test if this is the culprit? https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/d8faf369b67dfcb130700b15fe965ffaad8d4b95

Not sure why the changelog is for 62.* versions though, is that really when the problem started happening?

Bisect is wrong, definitely not my change in this case.

As per comment #8 we are able to reproduce this issue on chrome version 62.0.3181.0 only on windows 10-Surface pro.Attaching gpu for reference. Note: -------- 1.Reproduce this issue on only Windows 10-Surface Pro, Version-1709, OS Build_16299.431. 2.Tried screen recording tools but the difference is not clearly visible hence sharing the good and bad behavior of videos taken by mobile and uploaded to drive. @dalecurtis and @hubbe provided access to both you Drive Link: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1spJi6K57MAvgU1t4EXzfnp6UVtmmrAsw ,please confirm the issue and help in re-assigning if it is not related to your change. let us know if we miss anything. Hi. This issue is reproducible on my hardware as well and is quite noticeable on some videos. With affected hardware (such as mine) you can notice it on certain websites with dynamic play controls such as YouTube. For example, try hovering your mouse over this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nUB60r6l8M while it's playing and see the difference in colors while the controls are displayed and after they disappear. Please make sure to hover either in fullscreen mode or in "default view" mode. Also, video is permanently brighter in "Theater mode". The issue can be reproduced both with default system ICC profile and when a custom ICC profile is used. Windows 10 17134.48, Chrome 67.0.3396.62, GPU details are attached. Thanks.

This bug has a stale milestone. Please close appropriately, update the milestone and set P1/P2, or drop the milestone and set as P3. I'll automatically punt these issues to M70 next week otherwise.

This looks like it might be an overlay problem. Could you try running chrome with the flag "--disable-direct-composition" to see if the problem goes away?
,
Jul 26
Thanks! I can confirm that "--disable-direct-composition" fixes the issue for me. With the flag enabled, I don't observe color changes with the scenario described above.

"--disable-direct-composition" fixes the issue for me.

liberato@ tells me that zmo@ is working on the direct composition code nowadays. Not sure if there is work to do for this bug, but hopefully zmo@ can figure it out.

This seems to have the same root cause as crbug.com/806364 when in hardware overlay mode. |
