ISTR there was a product decision to ignore main-frame custom scrollbar styling on Android. I suppose we could carve out an exception for display:none. Ideally we would have a better way to hide scrollbars (issue 174818).

Thanks Philip for opening this bug. I did observe this behavior, which I did not expect. I hit this issue while trying to create a repro for another issue about scrollbar (https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=840034). So this issue does not impact my work, but the other one does.

There doesn't seem to be anything google-specific here, can I remove RVG? I think skobes@ is right and this is intentional. We could make display:none work but I think this is low-pri unless we get lots of requests for this.

Yeah, no need for RVG.

This bug has no impact on my work, so it is very low priority to me. But I am curious, what was the reason behind the decision to ignore main-frame custom scrollbar styling on android?

This predates me but back then many more pages were desktop-only so the team was probably worried about usability of custom scrollbars in a mobile browser.
