David, Yueluo is hitting this on an internal google property. Can you triage this?
ISTR there was a product decision to ignore main-frame custom scrollbar styling on Android. I suppose we could carve out an exception for display:none.

Ideally we would have a better way to hide scrollbars (issue 174818).

Thanks Philip for opening this bug. I did observe this behavior, which I did not expect. I hit this issue while trying to create a repro for another issue about scrollbar (https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=840034). So this issue does not impact my work, but the other one does.

There doesn't seem to be anything google-specific here, can I remove RVG?

I think skobes@ is right and this is intentional. We could make display:none work but I think this is low-pri unless we get lots of requests for this.

Yeah, no need for RVG.

Comment 6 by yue...@google.com, May 7 2018

This bug has no impact on my work, so it is very low priority to me.

But I am curious, what was the reason behind the decision to ignore main-frame custom scrollbar styling on android?

This predates me but back then many more pages were desktop-only so the team was probably worried about usability of custom scrollbars in a mobile browser.
