Hi Viswa, Thanks for your reply. https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2017/09/autoplay-policy-changes#webaudio What I meant, We found that (from above link) HTML-5 Web Audio auto play is stopped from latest version-66 (April 2018). Is there any workaround to play Audio without any event trigger (find attached screenshot). We need this feature otherwise I/users will move to other browsers. Regards, Naveen

Background: We are working on a HTML5 project, where we have used webAudio. In the recent version 66, we are facing a problem, where, the Chrome browser is expecting a user interaction to play the audio. In earlier version, the audio was auto playing. Requirement: We need to have an audio play automatically, as that is our customer's requirement. Clarification Required: We need to understand if this will be handled in the newer version of the browser or will this feature be retained from this version onwards.

This restriction will most likely stay in the future versions. Is there any way we can help you find a solution to your problem? Did the article in comment #3 help find a solution? Please, feel free to reach out to me privately if needed.

Thank you for your reply. Is there any work around so that in our case we do not use any eventlistener or any gesture to play the audio as the page loads.

Looks like root cause for this issue is already known as per Comment#8, hence removing the Needs-Bisect label and requesting developers for an update on Comment#9 from reporter. Removing Needs-Bisect label and adding TE-NeedsTriageHelp for further inputs on it. Thanks!

I can confirm that this breaks audio playback (don't care about video playback) in our in-house web app, the whole purpose of which is to play sounds on page loads for alerting. I'm not aware of there being a significant problem with audio being used for auto-play adverts, and while we don't want to create one - I suggest this change is reverted and applied to video only until a better consensus can be reached on how to handle this given there are a lot of legitimate use cases. Currently this discourages use of Chromium which is our (vastly) preferred browser. App uses SoundManager2.js

For in-house applications, you can use a whitelist via the Chrome Enterprise Policy: https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2017/09/autoplay-policy-changes#chrome_enterprise_policies Otherwise, https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2017/09/autoplay-policy-changes goes trough the best practices. This said, in the case of Web Audio, we are working on a fix. There are many bugs open for this so I will close this specific one. Feel free to reach out here or privately if needed. |
