Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/67.0.3396.18 Safari/537.36 Example URL: Any youtube video both VP9 and AVC codecs Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Use an old netbook/computer with Intel GMA3150 or similar graphics and atom or low end CPU (no hardware video decode support) 2. Video playback on youtube 480p is completely unusable - like one frame every 5 seconds at best. The degradation is so bad that even CPUs faster than mine (also with weak GPUs) are likely also not getting usable video. What is the expected behavior? the current chrome stable release (ver below) provides the usable 480p performance I've had all along (about 20% frames dropped which is OK on this old box). I've tested this many times back and forth many times so it's not a network issue. Flash video playback is working fine. What went wrong? Video playback plays one frame about every five seconds. Did this work before? Yes 66.0.3359.13 Is it a problem with Flash or HTML5? HTML5 Does this work in other browsers? colmj.oregan@ Thanks for the issue. Tested this issue on Windows 10 and Ubuntu 14.04 on the reported version 67.0.3396.18, latest Stable 66.0.3359.139 and Canary 68.0.3414.0 and unable to reproduce the issue. Able to play Youtube videos with 480p and no issues are observed. As this issue needs to be tested on low end CPU, this setup is not available at TE end end for further testing. Hence adding 'TE-Hardware-Dependency' label for further help in triaging. Thanks..

Thanks for looking into it but whatever it was it appears to have fixed itself though I haven't updated anything apart from removing some legacy libs. So sorry for the false alarm and I recommend closing the issue.

Unlikely to be a decoding issue, +compositing folks since we've had a few reports around linux. If you disable accelerated compositing in chrome://flags does that help?

You should maybe read the last comment before posting :) I already requested the issue be closed (I don't have the ability to do so). For the record, yes disabling hardware acceleration fixed it but removing some useless (for my hardware) VA drivers I believe was the main issue.

Ah, thanks for the details. Sorry, I missed the previous comment. cc: some gpu folks explicitly in case the information in c#5 is useful on other Linux gfx bugs.

If anything, we should probably be disabling GPU acceleration altogether on these old configurations. The driver only supports GL 1.4, but we need GL 2.0 at least (we probably get away with it on this config with the slew of extensions, but there's probably bugs around the edges). |
