Chromium 66 segfaults on Antergos linux

Reported by gerry2...@gmail.com, Apr 23 2018

Issue description

Chrome Version (from the about:version page): 66.0.3359.117-1 (reported by package manager)
Is this the most recent version: Yes
OS + version: Antergos/Arch with kernel 4.16.3-1-ARCH
CPU architecture (32-bit / 64-bit): 64-bit
Window manager: GNOME 3.28.1
URLs (if relevant):
Behavior in Linux Firefox: No problems
Behavior in Windows Chrome (if you have access to it): No problems (might not be the same version)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Start Chromium from commandline/window manager

What is the expected result?
Chromium appears

What happens instead?
It never starts, starting it from the commandline gives a segfault

Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot
and backtrace if possible.

For graphics-related bugs, please copy/paste the contents of the about:gpu
page at the end of this report.

Chromium 65 does work as expected.

Thanks for filing the issue!

Unable to reproduce the issue on reported chrome version using Ubuntu 14.04 with the below mentioned steps.
1. Changed the directory to the folder in which chromium is present.
2. Gave command ./chrome
We were able to successfully launch chromium with out any issues. Attaching the screen cast of the same.

@Reporter: Could you please have a look at the screen cast and let us know if we have missed anything in the process. Any further inputs from your end may be helpful.

The methodology used in the video is right. I have also found that chromium does start on my laptop when using chromium 66 on an Antergos bootable USB. This narrows the issue down to my desktop PC of which I posted the about:gpu above.

Comment 5 by gerry2...@gmail.com, Apr 26 2018

I'm sorry for posting a second comment so quickly after the last one, but running the live USB of Antergos on the desktop PC and starting chromium 66 does work. Therefore it seems to be an issue with my current configuration.

I tried some more things on the broken system: Moving the ~/.config/chromium folder or removing ~/.cache/chromium does not fix the crashing issue. Chromium did create a new ~/.config/chromium when I had moved the original folder elsewhere. In this new chromium folder was only the folder "BrowserMetrics" with in there one .pma file.
I have the same issue. After doing updates and restarting Chromium wouldtn't start anymore. I cant say which package it was specifically though, i had around 270 pending. I also ran it with gdb quickly, https://pastebin.com/WVZFCgKU .

@gerry: As per your comment#5 "running the live USB of Antergos on the desktop PC and starting chromium 66 does work" it is understood that the issue has been resolved (i.e., the issue is with the configuration). Could you please confirm if we can close this issue.

Thanks!

Unable to reproduce the issue on ubuntu 17.10 using chrome stable version #66.0.3359.139.
Observed that chromium appeared without any issues.

The issue seems to be reproducible using OS + version: Antergos/Arch with kernel 4.16.3-1-ARCH which is not available with TE-team. Hence adding label TE-Hardware-Dependency.

Thanks...!!
@vamshi The issue still exists for both me and @rockthat... (comment#6) on our normal installation. The live environment is a fresh and unused and does not have configuration files. To me, this seems to indicate that there is some issue with existing configuration files on Antergos in some way. In comment#5 I tried some things with moving configuration files but was unable to fix the problem. At the moment the only fix for my main machine is still keeping the chromium package back on every update.
The issue has now been solved for me on version 67.0.3396.87 by running the following command once: rm ~/.config/chromium-flags.conf

This was proposed on the Antergos forums: https://forum.antergos.com/topic/9677/chromium-is-broken/29?page=2
