USB-C Yubikeys no longer recognized by ChromeOS?

Reported by spuddybu...@gmail.com, Apr 21 2018

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 10452.69.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/66.0.3359.117 Safari/537.36
Platform: 10452.69.0 (Official Build) beta-channel eve

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Go to https://demo.yubico.com/ or the LastPass U2F login screen
2. Insert personal USB-C Yubikey 4C into USB-C port
3. Note that Yubikey blinks rapidly
4. Long touch Yubikey to generate U2F password

What is the expected behavior?
Password is generated and I can log in to LastPass

What went wrong?
Nothing happens.

- This also reproduces on my Asus Chromebook Flip C302 running the same version of Chrome.
- My USB-A Yubikey seems to be recognized (with an adapter).
- The Yubikey blinks rapidly (USB enumeration mode or an error)

Did this work before? Yes Prior version of ChromeOS

Chrome version: 66.0.3359.117 Channel: beta
OS Version: 10452.69.0
Flash Version:

It's possible that this is a hardware failure of the Yubikey itself. I am wondering if there are any other reports of a problem with this version of ChromeOS. I will follow up with Yubico to see if there is any other troubleshooting I can do.

I don't have a ChromeOS device or a USB-C Yubikey handy to test this out so assigning this without verifying.

If the U2F key is blinking when you visit that page then it should have been enumerated properly by Chrome. To confirm this please,

(1) Connect your device and attempt to use your Yubikey.
(2) Open a new tab and navigate to chrome://device-log.
(3) Check only "Error", "User", "Event", "Debug", "USB" and "HID".
(4) Copy the log messages and add them to this issue.

Here is what I see in the logs when I insert and remove the Yubikey.

FWIW I can't get Chrome on a Macbook to recognize it either, and the Mac OS X system report doesn't list it as a USB device.

(I have a ticket open with Yubico to try to troubleshoot this as a hardware issue.)

This turned out to be a hardware issue with that specific key. After many emails I was able to get a replacement 4C that is working fine. I haven't checked my Asus Chromebook Flip yet, but I'll go ahead and close this.
