Regression: 'Passphrase' text is seen as 'Passphra se' in the error message of invalid passphrase

Issue description

Chrome Version:67.0.3390.0/10562.0.0 dev channel Daisy,Kip,Reks
OS: Chrome OS

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1)Sign into your Chromebook with an account that asks for Passphrase
(2)In chrome://settings/syncSetup page enter a invalid Passphrase and observe 'Passphrase' text in the error message

Actual: 'Passphrase'text is seen as 'Passphra se' in the error message of  invalid passphrase
Expected: No such spacing should be seen between 'a' & s' for passphrase error message

This is a Regression issue seen from 66.0.3359.52/10452.27.0 beta

Note: Issue is not seen in Linux,Windows OS

@stevenjb: Please confirm the issue.

I can not reproduce this in a local 67.0.3388.0 build.

The text is correct, looks like maybe this is a font or rendering issue? I can not produce it on a samus device. Can it be reproduced in 68?

I'll take a look on a Daisy device. Can you confirm that this is with a release build? The fonts in that image look a bit blurry / off in general.

Able to reproduce the issue on Dev RC 68.0.3431.0/10682.0.0 and latest ToT 68.0.3431.0/10682.0.0

I can reproduce this on Daisy. We're not doing anything bizarre in Settings, it's just unexpected rendering. The computed style is:

font-family: Roboto, Noto, sans-serif
font-size: 12.0003px (not: making this 12px does not have any affect, but 13px renders fine)
height: 10px

That looks like a hinting issue, is the device in question using subpixel text rendering? If not it would explain the rendering as Roboto and Noto are poorly hinted.
